“The Boys” Ends At #72 but is Still Developing at Paramount as a Movie!

The Boys #72

The Boys #72

I wasn’t sure how long “The Boys” would last when it was first announced years ago, but to say that lasting 72 issues as well as several spin-off miniseries is a monumental feat is a major understatement.

Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson have poured their lives into this acclaimed series and now it’ll be coming to an end in November.

Ennis had this to say about the end of the series:

“Seventy-two issues plus three minis adds up to 90 issues, making this a very busy six years — more than six years, of course, because we very nearly didn’t make it but all’s well that ends well. I finished #72 well over a year before it’s due to see print, and I’ve been missing Butcher and Hughie ever since. Goodbye, Boys. I doubt we’ll see your like again.”

There has never been a superhero series published quite like what Ennis and Robertson did with “The Boys” and there will probably never be anything like it again.

Speaking of “all’s well that ends well”, this sad announcement is also accompanied by the exciting announcement that Adam McKay is still developing “The Boys” movie at Paramount Studios. There was even talk at one point of Russell Crowe playing Billy Butcher, but there hasn’t been any more news on that front.

Would you pay to go see “The Boys” on the big screen? Do you think it would make a great movie? Tell us your thoughts!
