The Legend of Luthor Strode #3 Review

This issue is the halfway point for the second story about Luther Strode. Luther has embraced his ultra-violent ways in his crusade against the mob. This has upset the mod and in return they have hired the mysterious killer to take Strode down.

The thing that struck me about this issue was how my allegiance for characters shifted. I obviously started out cheering for Strode. Why not, as he is the protagonist of this book. He seems to be doing good taking out bad guys. However, the backstory on the mystery killer is insightful as to his quest and sways me somewhat. His tactics might not be the best way to get things done though.

Jordan has given us a pretty action heavy story so far with little plot. He takes the time this issue to lay out some plot, but I have to question why he’s waited this long. The characters he’s introducing are cool to see in the roles they are in (one is quite the famous killer) and might save this story from becoming too dull.

As a whole, the Luther Strode series is kind of like Kick-Ass on steroids. The violence is over the top, the colorist’s favorite color is red, and the art is over exaggerated. It’s a fun read, but quickly becoming something I don’t keep at the top of my weekly stack to read as soon as I get home. The ending of this issue has rejuvenated my interest a little to see what happens next.
