Randy’s Reviews – Fatale #12, Storm Dogs #3, End Times with Bram and Ben #2, Clone #4, & The Manhattan Projects #9!

Fatale #12 by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips is another fantastic standalone issue. This issue focuses on a different fatale, Matilda. This was a fun read but was a totally different kind of story. We do get to see just how powerful these forces are that surround Josephine and Matilda. I’m sure the book will play some sort of relevance further down the line (unless it’s the book from the beginning of the series and we’ve already seen it). As Brubaker cuts his workload down and focuses more on this book, its story only grows stronger.

Storm Dogs #3 by David Hine and Doug Braithwaite marks the half ways point of this series. Storm Dogs is a mixture of CSI and science fiction. This issue starts to reveal some key answers to questions that have been around since the first issue. Braithwaite provides some rich, detailed art that I enjoy greatly. This will be a series that many people overlook and it will be a shame that they do.

End Times with Bram and Ben #2 by James Asmus, Jim Festante and Rem Broo continues to make me laugh. Bram has declared he wants to be the Antichrist after a snafu in Heaven. Ben is freaking out but gets some divine advice from an angel. It looks like the fate of the left behind souls on Earth is going to be determined by a knockdown, drag out brawl between the two friends. Though this book is only 4 issues long, you should definitely give it a try.

Clone #4 by David Schulner and Juan Jose Ryp amps up the action as Luke tries to save his wife. This book has beautiful artwork and reminds me some of Warren Ellis’ Anna Mercury. Tragedy strikes as Luke’s clone, Foss, helps him rescue his wife. This is a fast paced, ongoing story that you can still find available back issues in the store and join In on this thrilling experience!

The Manhattan Projects #9 by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Pitarra is a difficult book to review this week. This is one of the first ones that flows directly out of the previous issue. The crew shows that they aren’t to be feared just because they are all geniuses, they can kick butt too! The ending of this issue feels almost like a finale and I’m not sure where the book goes from this point but I know I’ll love whatever direction it takes. Pitarra’s art of Einstein with the championship belt over his shoulder is hilarious. The presidency is a bit of a question for me. This book is perfect proof for why I recommended it as one of Image’s best series.
