Top Image Comics for April 2015!

Chris: Hello, everyone. Thanks for pressing play. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Small Talk. This episode we’re talking about the Top Image Comics for April 2015. I’m Chris, my co host Buzz. We’re going to tell you about some awesome and, very interesting looking new comic series’ that are coming from Image Comics that we’re excited to check out, read and share information with you about, so you can go ahead and pre-order these books. These books are already being solicited in the current previews book.

Jupiter's Circle #1 from Image Comics

Jupiter’s Circle #1 from Image Comics

We’re trying to inform you, so you don’t miss out. Guys, let’s start it off. Mark Millar and Wilfredo Torres are with us again with Jupiter’s Circle, taking a look at the characters from Jupiter’s Legacy, the current hit series that Mark Millar and Frank Quitely have been doing. That series has taken a break. This series is coming out. This is supposed to be a maxi series, like ten issues or so.

Buzz: Okay.

Chris: This is supposed to be one of those series that Mark Millar promises is like, done. It’s in the can.

Buzz: I’ll believe it when I see it.

Chris: I know. We’re supposed to get monthly issues and I’m with you. When I see it, then we’re good. This takes a look at all the heroes that you’ve seen from Jupiter’s Legacy in their earlier days, like when they first got their powers, when they first discovered that mysterious island and met the alien people, and everything. This takes a look at that as well as how they developed up to the point where we see in Jupiter’s Legacy. I’m really looking forward to that. I like the art of Wilfredo Torres, looks very nice, looks like Chris Sprouse. Looking very interesting to me. Jupiter’s Circle number one in April. Buzz, what’s up for you bro?

Savior #1 from Image Comics

Savior #1 from Image Comics

Buzz: Todd McFarlane’s newest book, Savior #1. McFarlane’s not drawing it though. He is co-writing it with Brain Holguin and, Clayton Crain will be doing the art on it. What this book’s about is this perfect little town … This stranger shows up. This stranger has superpowers. He has no memory and, he has no identity on him to tell who he is. What is he? Is he a hero? Is he a villain or, is he a god? We’ll find out.

Chris: I’m looking forward to it. I’m going to check it out. I haven’t read anything by McFarlane in years but, I’m actually interested in this. Clayton Crain, he recently … He’s done a ton of stuff but, he recently did that Rai series for Valiant.

Buzz: Okay.

Chris: He’s an excellent artist. He’s worked for McFarlane in the past doing Spawn and other things like that. Another one coming out, Kaptara #1.

Kaptara #1 from Image Comics

Kaptara #1 from Image Comics

This is by Chip Zdarsky and Kagan McLeod. Chip Zdarsky is the artist for the Image series, Sex Criminals. He’s going to be writing this series. We’ve got Kagan McLeod coming on for the artist. This takes a look at a space expedition that goes horribly wrong because, if it didn’t we wouldn’t have a story to tell you.

Buzz: Exactly.

Chris: I’m expecting a bit of humor with this series as they take a look at the sci-fi aspects of this world. Apparently we’re looking at a main character by the name of Kieth Kanga. His crew crash land on this planet called Kaptara where there’s tons of weirdness but, if he can’t make it back to Earth, Earth may not survive. What that entails, I don’t know but, as they say, they’re putting the “fi: back in the sci-fi. They pretty much disregard the “sci” part in this epic story of punching and love. So, there we go. Chip Zdarsky’s quite the character. I’ve read interview’s and stuff with him, so I’m expecting there to be some off-handedness, some crudeness, some humor. If that’s up your alley, check out Kaptara #1. What’s up for you, bro?

No Mercy #1 from Image Comics

No Mercy #1 from Image Comics

Buzz: Next up, No Mercy #1 by Alex de Campi and Carla Speed. Two women pushing forward. All right. This is about a college trip down in Central America that goes South, figuratively and literally.

Chris: Yes.

Buzz: That’s all I’m going to say about that. Mm-hmm.

Pisces #1 from Image Comics

Chris: That’s awesome. Hopefully they’ll survive that trip. Up next is Pisces #1. This is by Kurtis Wiebe, who is the writer for Rat Queens and for Peter Panzerfaust. Art is by Johnnie Christmas, who has been working with Ed Brisson on Sheltered. This is a brand new series taking a look at a former fighter pilot, Dylan Carpenter, after he comes home from the Vietnam War. He is presented with a chance to actually work for NASA and go on a space mission. The most important space mission, one that will involve first contact. He’s having visions … He’s having some really weird dreams. Something is going on here that may put him on a different course than what he original thought. I’m really looking forward to this by … I love Johnnie Christmas’ art on Sheltered, nice clean, breakthrough artist. He really set the tone for that series. I haven’t read anything by Kurtis Wiebe but, I’ve been very interested in Panzerfaust and Rat Queens, they’ve got tons of reviews.

Buzz: Mm-hmm

Chris: So, I’m checking this out. You should add it to your pull list. What’s up for you, bro?

Buzz: RunLoveKill #1.

Chris: RunLoveKill.

RunLoveKill #1 from Image Comics

Buzz: All right, this is by Jonathan Tsuei. I’m not entirely sure if I’m pronouncing that right and, Eric Canete.

Chris: Sure.

Buzz: All right. Rain Oshiro has 24 hours to escape a barricaded city while she is being hunted by a military force out to capture her or, kill her. Oh, did I mention she’s a fugitive and an assassin?

Chris: No, you didn’t. That’s awesome. That’s awesome. 24 hours to survive there in this city. Last up, what I’m really, really looking forward to is a four issue mini series coming from Image Comics called The Tithe. It’s written by Matt Hawkins with art by Rahsan Ekedal. I’m probably butchering that name, I apologize. If you like heist stories but, you’re tired of them always taking place in banks or museums, this one is taking place in a church. This follows mega churches are now the big money stores. I mean, people … Thousands of people go to these churches, and they literally give tithes and offering in service. Where does that money go?

What is the path by which that money makes it to a bank, or wherever they’re going? This is going to be a different take on that because, there’s a group called Samaritan … It’s a hacker group called Samaritan, and they’re robbing from these churches and, giving to the poor in their own way … What they think are worthy of these causes. Like a different take on Robin Hood.

Buzz: Mm-hmm

Chris: With a different type of morality in play, looks like between churches, and thieves, and robbery. Apparently, this kind of group doesn’t like how the money is being handled. I’m really … I like this idea. Those of you that hate church or, whatever, this may be right up your alley too. I don’t know. It’s a very interesting concept to me and, I want to check it out. It’s a four issue mini series. That’s a quick in and out, you know? It’s going to be good or it’s going to be bad. Check out four issues of it, and give it a try.

Buzz: Or if you like church, you can root for the bad guys.

Chris: You can root for the church, or route for whoever you want to route for. That’s it, guys! These are some of the top comics…new number ones that are coming from Image Comics for April 2015.
