The Green Team and The Movement Bring the Occupy Movement to DC in May!

The Green Team #1

THE GREEN TEAM #1

As we have written about before, DC Comics is going to be canceling several of their titles. They’re also going to be changing up the writers on all of their Green Lantern titles as well as the artist for those titles. They have recently announced that they are not going to go forward with the “WTF” certified covers for April comics that they are publishing because of the controversy that has surrounded it, but they are introducing two new comic book series that are coming out to replace some of those that are lost with these cancellations.

The first book that will be coming out is called The Green Team and is supposed to be more reflective of the times. Written by Art Baltazar and Franco with art by Ig Guara, the Green Team centers around four individual multi-billionaire, if not multi-trillionaire, teenagers that have more money to spend than they know what to do with and they decide to make their lives more interesting, they want to buy powers for themselves and irritate the Justice League.

The Green Team really is a series that will center around the idea of the 1% movement, or the 1% in general, that we have seen fought against with the Occupy Movement here in recent years. These are the super rich, super elite of society that are born into wealth or they are the billionaires from the dot.com movements and they are left with more money than time apparently, so they like to make their lives more interesting by purchasing superpowers.

The other new series that will be coming from DC Comics, written by Gail Simone with art by Freddie Williams II, is The Movement, which focuses more on the Occupy Movement itself, the 99% that are without the wealth and resources of the 1% but are greater in number and are greater in their strengths. They are faceless, limitless, they are watching, and they do not forgive.

Both of these issues are supposed to be more current, trendy comics that are more in-line with the times and the economy as it is now.

Clashes of philosophy and ideology will abound in May! Can’t wait to see these issues!
