RIP Joe Kubert – Our Thoughts and Prayers to the Kubert Family

Industry legend, Joe Kubert, has passed away at the tender age of 85.

Joe Kubert is a legend in the comic book community. He was a pioneer in the comics community not only from his stellar artistic work but also his founding of The Kubert School in 1976, a school like no other, truly unique for its time and kind even now.

His most famous students are his two sons, Adam and Andy Kubert, but the school has been producing fantastic artists for generations, with alumni to many to count and too many to categorize.

Joe Kubert may have been best known for his work with Norman Maurer on the prehistoric character and book “Tor“. His work also includes Golden Age work for DC Comics “Hawkman,” a critically-acclaimed body of war and military comics including the adventures of Sgt. Rock, comics journalism including “Fax from Sarajevo,” personal work like “Yossel,” and recently, a number of commercial comics projects as well as regular art or the U.S. Army’s “PS Magazine.” He also collaborated with Andy on “Before Watchmen: Nite Owl“. DC will publish. as far as we know, Kubert’s last work in October “Joe Kubert Presents” a 48-page one-shot.

Apparently, Kubert was hospitalized before his passing, though we have no idea for what reasons. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we wish them all the best.

We were able to find some recent video and interviews with Joe Kubert. Great insight into a great man.
