Randy’s Reviews – Earth Two #9 by James Robinson and Nicola Scott from DC Comics

Earth Two #9 Review by Randy Young

Randy from Excalibur Comics here again. Last time I reviewed a few of the number ones that came out this past week. This time I’d like to review some comics that while they aren’t new, they may have a new creative team on them, or they’re at the beginning of a new story line, or they’re just too awesome of a story to ignore.

The next book I’m recommending you check out is Earth Two #9.

I originally thought this book would be about us getting a new version of the Justice Society on Earth, but instead it looks more like what’s happening is James Robinson is just given total control to create this new world and he’s creating this new world of “wonders” – that’s their name that they have for super heroes in this world or in this universe.

And, he’s taking all these familiar faces and these familiar names and there’s still heroes but instead what he’s doing with them is he’s putting them on different sides. Some are working for what’s called The World Army and some are working more as vigilantes.

But he’s just kind of giving us something new and different. Here, it’s not like picking up Justice League and you have the “Big 7” on the Justice League and they’re fighting the villains they always fight. This is totally new stuff. Great take on them.

What we get here in #9 worth checking out is that we start learning about this guy who’s going to become the new Dr Fate. He’s a reluctant hero and already he’s a pretty complex character. I like this character – this looks like it’s going to be the beginning of his journey, to fully accept and become Dr Fate. And the great thing is this world’s new Flash; he’s along for the ride. This right here is one of DC’s best books right now.
