Age of Ultron #5 Review

Age of Ultron is heating up. This series started off with lots of questions and fairly slowly, but now it’s gaining steam. We know who is behind things, we know where, and now we know what the heroes plan to do to fix things.

I have a very hard time with the reasoning behind the “who is behind this.” I do not think that Ultron’s ultimate goal was to always have this character (I’m refraining from saying who just for those that haven’t read it yet but might want to) infiltrate the Avengers with the goal of destroying them from within. If they went with the idea that future Ultron came up with this idea, well then I have less of a complaint with that.

Bendis creates a great story here with far more action than I’m usually used to seeing from him. I will point out that Bendis is trusting us to overlook quite a few coincidences here. The randomness of all these heroes showing up in the Savage Land when the only ones we know for sure knew to head there were Black Widow and Moon Knight is an example of one of these coincidences. Another would be who is waiting for the heroes at their destination. That being said, I can forgive him as long as the story stays this interesting.

The heroes have decided to travel to the future to take care of Ultron. This decision doesn’t sit well with one character, bub. He thinks it’s a better idea to travel back and have a little talk with Ultron’s creator, Hank Pym.

Things are about to get real interesting.

This issue is somewhat of a setup for the next part of the story but still pulls you in more with the craziness of the whole situation.

I know I’ve said it before, but I cannot recommend you start reading this story if you haven’t already. It is the best “big event” story I’ve read from Marvel in years.
