Saga #11 Review

This issue is one to remember. We have gotten to see the relationship between Marko and Alana via flashbacks. This issue we get to see the conception of little Hazel. Caution, the first page is quite a shocker as is the pillow talk that follows. Somehow, though, it doesn’t come off as offensive.

I’ll be the first to admit, I was wrong. I took a guess as to what was going to happen and was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong. I say pleasantly because I don’t want this book to become predictable. I have all the faith in the world that Vaughan will keep that from happening.

When we left our cast of characters at the end of issue 10, everybody was in a tight spot. There is quick and costly resolution to this though.

The Will and Gwendolyn are quite resilient, as is Marko.

Something happens in this issue that will create some strong feelings in the reader. Vaughan manages to give us a tender and incredible moment of sacrifice that will probably be felt for some time in this book.
The flashback that occurs due to this is one of the best of the whole series.

It doesn’t have to be said but I’ll say it anyways, Fiona Staples is a master storyteller in her own right and this book was beautifully drawn.

This issue might have just made Saga my favorite on the shelves today. I can say without a doubt, whether you’re a fan of sci-fi, fantasy, great writing, art, or any other genre you will love this book. It is for everyone.
