Team 7 #1

Since the launch of the new DC 52, we know that the DC Comics Universe and the Wildstorm Universe have slowly but surely been integrated into one comic book universe and one of the most anticipated series to come from this new endeavor is the new “Team 7” comic book that will launch in September with a #0 issue and be a new ongoing series from writer Justin Jordan and artist Jesus Merino.

Team 7” is going to be a comic series about the black ops team of the DC Universe and will reveal the secret history of the DCU. “Team 7” isn’t going to be a buddy book with a bunch of pals hanging around on a supersecret government team. This series will be more along the lines of the “Mission Impossible” and James Bond movies with spies, intrigue, and espionage.

The series will take place 5 years in the past and the purpose of the team is to figure out what responses should be in place in regards to the emergence of superhumans into the world. Their job isn’t necessarily to kill superhumans or to even control them but to figure out solutions to potential problems that they will face with superhumans.

The team is made up of people who are great at their jobs but not necessarily team players. They are world-class military and espionage operators and will find themselves placed in situations where they may even have to take down some of the good guys. The team currently consists of, but is not limited to, Grifter, Dinah, Steve Trevor, Amanda Waller, James Bronson, John Higgins, and Lynch, and there are more members that are part of the team that we will learn about as the series progresses.

To summarize what you can expect from the new series for the rest of the year, Jordan has this to say:

“Violence! Well, no. I mean, there is violence, but not head-exploding violence. We’re aiming to do a pretty big, action-packed book. If you’re itching for some badass spy/military action, this will hopefully scratch that itch. The really interesting part is bouncing these characters off of each other and seeing what happens and how that leads them to be the characters they eventually become. Or at least, it’s interesting for me, and I hope that readers feel the same.”

Team 7 launches with a #0 issue in September, so be sure to get it added to your pull list and see how some of your favorite characters were before they were incorporated into the new DC 52!
