Even though DC’s New 52 has had some cancellations, they’ve had many successes with their new titles. One of them being The Justice League by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee.

To add to that success, Geoff Johns and David Finch have decided to bring us a new team from the ashes of The Justice League International, a new team that will come together in February – The Justice League of America!

This will be a superteam of another kind – it’ll be a team of powerful, but lesser known super heroes in the DCU. The team will be comprised of Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern Baz, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman, and Catwoman.

The addition of the new Justice League team now gives the DCU three JL teams, which now begs the question: Is this what the rumored Trinity War will be about? In answer to that question, Johns told MTV Geek,

“It could be, but you’re a little off. How’s that for an answer?”

As for details about the team, Johns goes on to say,

“This is a very different kind of team book. On first glance, people might think the heroes of the ‘Justice League of America’ stand in the shadows of Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League, but Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman thrive in the shadows. They’re underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They’re a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they’re as A-List as anybody — yes, even Vibe. Though getting there won’t be easy. Why they’re formed, why each member joins, what they’re after and who the society of villains is they’re trying to take apart will all be clear in the first issue when it hits early 2013. David and I are really focused on delving deep into what it’s like to not be a member of the big seven and why, sometimes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”

The team is brought together by Steve Trevor and A.R.G.U.S. and will be lead by Steve Trevor. For a full breakdown of each character for the team, check out the character overview at Newsarama.

Expect this issue to sell out, probably even before it hits shelves, so if you don’t want to get stuck with a second printing, add it to your pull list ASAP!
