Hugo Weaving Won’t Return as The Red Skull?

Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull

In a recent interview at Collider, Hugo Weaving revealed that he’d really rather not be The Red Skull again if he din’t have to.

Weaving had this to say:

“I did that for Captain America. I think the tendency, with those films, would be to probably not bring a villain back. They might for The Avengers, but I didn’t think I’d be in Captain America 2 or 3. I don’t think Red Skull will be there. And it’s not something I would want to do again. I’m glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn’t want to force someone to do it, if they didn’t want to. I think I’ve done my dash with that sort of film.”

This seems a bit odd since there are many more movies planned with Captain America and also the fact that The Red Skull is the main villain kicking off the new Marvel NOW! inititative as the main villian in Uncanny Avengers. Just seems like there’s room for the Skull to be in another Cap movie and possibly an Avengers movie. Time will tell and money speaks, so let’s see what those sequel paychecks will be like before we take this as the final word from Weaving concerning what he will or won’t do when it comes to the The Red Skull!
